The state of J&K affords great opportunities for adventure sports like Skiing, Snow Surfing, Hot Air Ballooning, Trekking, Wind surfing, Heli Skiing etc which are being used by foreign tourists and is a major economic factor in the State. During winters Gulmarg becomes a global destination for professional
and amateur skiers because of its excellent ski slopes. However, the existing facilities are less exploited by local population due to lack of awareness and exposure. Seeing the response of children and on popular demand of locals, Dagger Division once again took the initiative to introduce the art of skiing to both boys and girls at Gulmarg and one such Skiing Camp is underway at Gulmarg from 12-18 Feb 2011. Dagger Division of the Indian Army had earlier conducted two such skiing camps at Gulmarg during the year 2010. A total of 30 children incl 15 girls are participating in the camp. This is for the first time that local girls have been put through this adventure activity . The camp was formally inaugurated by Commander Pir Panjal Brigade in an impressive ceremony at Gulmarg. During the seven day’s camp, besides skiing, events like trekking, sightseeing, cultural evening, motivational lectures and various competitions have also been planned.
