ARMY BRINGS ELECTRICITY, PROVIDES DRINKING TO  BORDER VILLAGE IN KARNAH

Syed Ishfaq:
Karnah Tehsil is the westernmost region of the J & K, where the locals have not been as lucky as their brethrens in the Kashmir valley, to enjoy the progress and development brought by the passage of time. Basic amenities like electricity still remains the most eluded aspect of modern  day infrastructure in few of the border villages. In its effort to provide succor to the needy population of villages along the LOC and more importantly keeping the impact of electricity in education of children’s in mind,  the Indian Army has always been  in the very forthcoming in this regard.  Reala is one such village which had been deprived of electricity for all these years  and responding to the locals call, the Shakti Vijay Brigade  undertook a project for electrification of  Reala through the Border Area Development Project(BADP) scheme. The project was planned, monitored and progressed    by 5/8 GR till its completion. Today because of the electrification of the village  there is a distinct glint visible in the eyes of over 500 residents there. What is more joyous to see is the  smile in the face of Altaf Ahmed,  a class 3 student , as darkness now stands conquered  and he can  study beyond the  daylight hours.

Beari is one of the remotest village under Karnah tehsil. The  people of this village were dependant on a severed  water pipeline for drinking water for years. The Army unit there , 5/8 GR, noticed this and promised the villagers to address the issue on priority. Within one year the project has moved from conceptualization
to   execution providing the much needed succor to the villagers. The role of Shakti Vijay Brigade in providing basic amenities to the locals of Karnah is well known and commendable. This water supply scheme has been constructed by the Gorkha battalion  under the Border Area Development Programme, it  comprise of a network of piplines and Sintex tanks spreading throughout the  village.   With the water
coming virtually to their homes the residents of Beari are very happy and are thankful to the Army for their effort and concern.  This is the second project undertaken by 5/8 GR as part of Border Area
Development  Programme, the other one being  bringing electricity to village Reala.
