Traffic Police to install CCTVs in capital cities Efficient synergy needed to contain traffic violations: DGP...

In a significant move to contain rising incidence of traffic violations, Jammu and Kashmir Police will make use of sophisticated technology including installation of CCTVs at vital locations in twin capital cities and major towns of the state. This was disclosed in a review meeting of Traffic Wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police, chaired by the Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda here this morning. The meeting was told that 33 CCTV cameras are being installed in Jammu city while as 13 cameras are under installation in Srinagar and more are being installed in both the cities. The places in Jammu City where the CCTV Cameras are proposed to be installed are Satwari Chowk, Green Belt Gandhinagar, Hotel Asia Crossing, Bikram Chowkh, Dogra Chowkh, Jewal Chowkh, K.C. Chowkh, Amphalla Chowk, Parade Chowkh and High Court Crossing Janipur. Likewise, in Srinagar, the Cameras would be installed at traffic intersections of Ram Munshi Bagh, TRC Crossing, Dalgate Crossing, M.A. Bridge Chowk, Golf Crossing, Ex-CM residence Crossing, Jehangir Chowkh Crossing, Exhibition Crossing, Fire Service Crossing and Hyderpora Crossing. Monitoring of these CCTVs would be done by separate Control Rooms to be established in Traffic Control Units of Jammu Srinagar. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Khoda asked the officers of the Traffic Wing to utilize the latest technology for regulating traffic and minimizing jamming on busy roads. He said that people have great expectations and hope from the traffic wing and asked them to reciprocate in equal major this faith. He asked officers of traffic wing to coordinate with all other concerned agencies connected with the road management etc. for smooth and jam free traffic movements on the roads. He disclosed that a Traffic Website dedicated exclusively to traffic issues would be launched soon and appealed people particularly youngsters to come forward with suggestions and feed back. The DGP asked the officers to launch a massive awareness campaign across the State  to make people aware about the traffic laws and regulations. In this regard he asked to organize seminars, debates and discussions using all available mass communications means so that the people are made aware. He asked for regular screening of vehicles to check vehicle thefts and traffic defaulters. The meeting also decided to identify more parking slots and setting up of electronic traffic signals system for automatic regulation of traffic. It was also proposed to set up two training schools and traffic police stations in the State to sensitize officers and jawans of the Traffic Wing for effective traffic management.
