December 22 – Launching yet another initiative of his government by way of transforming Commercial Taxes Department (CTD) into 24x7 Services Centre through a new web portal, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Wednesday said that the step is a significant one in popularizing e-governance in the State. The new web portal of CTD would provide a single window delivery platform for the tax payers by providing electronic services for e-registration, e-returns, e-payment, e-CST forms and e-check post. The portal in fact would serve a two way interaction module for high transactions round the clock and is only a click away from the user anywhere in the country or outside. The new Rs. 20 crore facility of Integrated and Automated IT Module would at one hand facilitate the traders community to a greater extent and on the other bring more transparency in the transactions and other financial matters. It would remove the complications and make the system easy, smooth and hassle-free. The Chief Minister lauding the CTD for launching the new web portal stressed the need for universalizing the initiative by bringing more and more public service rendering departments under the ambit of similar initiatives. He asked the Power, CAPD, R&B, PHE, Irrigation and other departments to follow the suit and be among the front runners in adopting the system of e-governance. Omar Abdullah said that today’s launch of web portal of CTD is yet another innovative initiatives of his government after SKEWPY, third party monitoring of development projects by NABCOM and MACANZY and tariff based bidding for 690 MWs Ratle Power Project. “I would apprise the Planning Commission about this initiative and the similar other measures in the pipeline to bring more transparency in the official functioning and financial transactions during the next plan discussions”, he added. The Chief Minister also appreciated the partnership of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in this prestigious project and expressed the hope that the Bank would extend its cooperation in similar other projects. He said the Kidmat Centres of Jammu and Kashmir Bank across the State would be utilized by the small traders to get advantage of new web portal of CTD. Omar Abdullah said that the launch of new web portal would also help to widen the tax payers’ net and enhance tax collection. “Instead of increasing the taxes and putting trading community under heavy thrust, it is better to widen the reach of CTD and register more and more tax payers”, he said adding that hassle-free e-registering would pave the
way for the same.
“In fact the new web portal of CTD indicates the futuristic plan of the government in the field of e-governance”, he said adding that
such initiatives would make
departmental functioning effective, prompt, transparent,
smooth and easy.
