Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Express that  Khanyar, Baba Demb, Fateh Kadal, Zaina Kadal, Bohri Kadal, Naid Kadal areas were placed under siege on the visit of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who inaugurated a community centre here this afternoon.

Special Operations Group (SOG) of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had cordoned off Khan-Kahi Moulla, the venue of the event early this morning. The forces also restricted the movement of vehicles through the road linking Khan-Kahi Moulla with rest of the city. They had also occupied high rise buildings to keep a close watch on the movement of people.

“I pleaded before the CRPF men to allow me to go to the shrine, but they refused,” an angry Taja Begum told Kashmir Express  near Police Station Maharaj Gunj.

The traders also complained of inconvenience due to the stringent security measures that were put in place to ensure trouble free visit of CM.

Pertinently, Omar visited the old city for the first time after the last year's summer unrest claimed over 112 lives, mostly of teenagers in government forces' firing.
