Karnah BSNL exchange defunct

KE news:

Srinagar, Dec 30: The telephone service, only means of communication
with the residents of frontier Tehsil Karnah from rest of the world
remains suspended for a month now with no sign of it being made
operational triggering widespread resentment among the natives.
“We are unable to contact our relatives in Karnah since the exchange
lies dead for a month now. We urge department of telecommunication
government of India to listen to our genuine grievance of restoration
of the only communication link,” said Sajjad Khan, a student here
attempting to contact his mother at Khorpora village near Tangdhar.
Similar views were echoed by hundreds of stranded residents here on
Thursday who have been desperately calling their relatives back home
in Karnah.
BSNL landline system is the only operational means to communicate
even as mobile communication network has been barred in Karnah.
The residents question the reason as to why Karnah is being barred
from mobile connectivity while in Uri there are number of operators
functional.
