Kashmir freezes as cold wave tightens grip...

Srinagar: As the cold wave continues to grip the valley, the night temperature in Srinagar on Monday plunged to minus 6 degree Celsius, making it the coldest night of the season. "Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6 degree C making it the coldest night of the season so far," said a MeT official based in Srinagar. Most of the places in valley recorded sub-zero temperature with Gulmarg freezing at minus 7.5 degree C. "Gulmarg recorded minus 7.5 degree C, while as, Pahalgam mercury dipped to minus 7.0 degree C," the official said. Temperature in Leh plunged to minus 17.0 degree Celsius, followed by Kargil at minus 11.6 degree C.Srinagar: Cold wave further tightened its grip in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday with most places in the state recording sub-zero temperature. Leh in frontier region of Ladakh was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 17.0 degree Celsius, followed by Kargil at minus 11.6 deg C. As a result of dip in the temperature, a thin layer of ice was formed on water bodies, including the famous Dal Lake, in Kashmir Valley. Boatmen were seen breaking ice with paddles while moving towards the river banks this morning
